SECRET BEACH, an ongoing series by JohnPaul Morris, began in 2017.
These images invite us to remember summer in its height, places of solitude, friends squinting in the sun together and treading water in the sunset.
The places here captured here are momentary, the in between— between friend’s houses, between work days, the place between sleeping and awake.
There is a hidden trail, a secret beach. Your phone can’t take you there. But your friends will.
JohnPaul learned to shoot film photography from his dad in 2009 on the camera handed down from when his parents first met. It was the camera that had captured their engagement, final days of college, starting a family and that family growing up. The family is still growing. It’s no longer the only camera that JohnPaul shoots with, but he still insists on using it as his primary way of taking photographs.
